BEDFORD) - The Lawrence County Commissioners voted to amend the county's contract with SRI to conduct a tax sale to collect delinquent property taxes on mobile homes.

SRI Inc. is an Indianapolis-based company that conducts tax sales, commissioners' certificate sales, deed sales and sheriff sales for more than 150 counties in Indiana.

Lawrence County Treasurer Paula Stewart told the commissioners that Lawrence County will be the first in the state to conduct a mobile home tax sale. There are currently 168 properties totaling $17,000 in delinquent taxes.

If the taxes are not paid, Lawrence County will offer these tax sale certificates at a public auction for a minimum bid that is no less than the total amount due in delinquent taxes, costs, special assessments and penalties.

No date has been set for the tax sale, but notices were sent to property owners in January and June informing them of the delinquent taxes.
