Sheriff's tax sale is smallest in 18 years

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office 2017 tax sale was the smallest in 18 years — and that’s a good thing.

The Sheriff’s Office collected just less than $1.2 million through the sale, which was held July 31 at the St. Tammany Parish Justice Center.

A total of 885 properties were scheduled to be sold because of unpaid property taxes, and 661 of those were auctioned. Another 194 properties were adjudicated to the parish, meaning that no buyer placed a bid on them. The parish assumes the tax lien against the property until it is redeemed.
